Omics in Horticultural Crops
Abstract
Being an age-old beverage with potential health benefit properties and a cash crop, tea has always been in the focus of scientific research. During the last two decades, simultaneous advent of genomic, transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, and overall phenomic approaches led to a thoughtful understanding of adaptation, evolution, and systems biology of tea. All these next-generation technologies paved the way toward exploration of the opportunities and their application targeting a sustainable crop improvement program. In this context, the present chapter aims to abridge the advancements made in recent years and challenges persisting in this arena to achieve future prospects.
