Abstract (Summary of the Work)
Cellular automata are simp le systems, dynamic in nature, and yet capab le of exhibiting extremely complicated behaviour. The present work deals with, ana lys ing certain features of additive, two-d imens iona l cellular automata. The propert ies were studied using matrix algebraic methods. In al1 our proofs, we have worked, us ing only one approach, even though other equivalent methods have been discussed briefly. The work has been mostly theoretical in nature, but the application aspect has not been comp letely left out. Efficiency of certain special 2-d CA's, regarding the generat ton of pseudo-random sequences, was invest igated.
