Abstract

The paper presents the detailed measurements of turbulence spectra, turbulence anisotropy, and turbulent bursting for flows in a rough open channel with respect to different Froude numbers under a shallow water depth. The anisotropy analysis suggests that with increase in the Froude number the flow follows three-dimensional isotropic characteristics at the middle of the flow depth and with increase in vertical distance, lower Froude number flow follows the one-component anisotropy. The quadrant analysis suggests that as the Froude number increases, in the neighborhood of the rough bed the sweep becomes the governing event in turbulent bursting. Also, no significant changes were observed in the power and coherence spectra due to changes in Froude numbers.
