Abstract (Summary of the Work)

The eXtensible Markup Language (XML) is the emerging standard for representing knowledge for many applications. XML retrieval is thus becoming increasingly important. A number of research groups from all over the world are actively working in this area.HyREX is an XML retrieval engine designed by Norbert Govert, University of Dortmund, Germany. In this thesis we have made a detail study of the HyREX system and finally improved the search performance by implementing relevance feedback. Here the assessments were done manually using the queries and assessment files provided by INEX 2002.
